Ever since moving from Portland to Michigan, I’ve had pretty much nothing but time. Yet somehow, it feels like I barely have two seconds to get anything done. The husband is studying for the bar exam and applying for jobs…and I’m…well, watching Monkey, working out for the Go Green, Get Fit Challenge, and blogging. That’s pretty much it. Before I had a kid, I would have rolled my eyes at someone if they tried to tell me they couldn’t get anything done with that schedule.
See, the thing is, I love giving my kid attention. And I love hanging out with him. That means, when he’s awake – I don’t do much but chill with him. Not to mention that he recently started crawling, is sitting up unassisted, and he is working on standing. Oh, and he just got his first top tooth and has three more on their way which is making for a slightly fussier than normal baby. I can’t exactly set him down with toys and go make dinner like I used to because he’ll be across the room in no time. So I end up just playing with him, or going on a walk, or taking him outside on the front porch swing.
Then, nap time comes around and I sit down to work on blog stuff. But then I realize that I have an enormous pile of laundry building up, so I wander off to go do that. Then I remember the two clean baskets of clothes that have been sitting there for a few days that I should probably put away. By the time I finally sit down with my computer, the dogs will bark at who knows what and wake Monkey up. Sometimes I get lucky and I can get him back to sleep, but other times not so much.
Now, I’ll admit that Monkey has been having some gloriously long naps lately (2-3 hours) and those are the days that I get stuff accomplished. Those are the days that I am able to write posts like my how to cloth diaper with prefolds post (although that post took more like 2-3 naps.)
The thing is, it seems like I don’t have time to keep up with all of the ‘fluff’ stuff I used to online – like reading other blogs! I miss that! I mean, even when I’m writing posts, I’m usually rushing to get them done as fast as I can – and sometimes I’ll be in the middle of a thought and then get interrupted by Mister Monkey making it that much harder to jump back into it at a later time.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I love being a mom, but I’d really like to know how other moms do it! Particularly other mommy bloggers. I know I’ll get more time once the husband is done studying for the bar, but still! There are so many other stay at home moms out there that post WAY more than I do, and are constantly on facebook and twitter. How the heck do they do it? Am I really just terrible at managing my time? What’s the deal? Someone enlighten me here! I know once Monkey is a bit older, he’ll be able to be more independent..but at that point, I’ll probably have a newborn that will take all of my time and energy again. Help!

Hi and welcome! I'm Jenny - a green living new momma, adoring wife, and MSU fan.

I understand, I felt the same way. Once Leland became mobile though, I was able to do more around the house. Now that he is walking, it is usually more helpful. He can play my himself or try to help me. There is nothing wrong with having a messy house if that means you spent time with your child.
Thanks for the encouragement :) I’m finding that it’s almost harder now that Monkey is mobile! But, he’s just crawling, not walking. Maybe it will get easier as time goes on. I totally agree on the messy house thing!
