Pick me for the #WindowStyle makeover!

As you all know, soon I’ll be heading off to NYC for the BlogHer ’12 blogging conference, and I absolutely cannot wait. I’ve been jumping out of my skin for weeks now! My schedule is jam packed with awesome conference sessions, lunches, dinners, and parties. I just know that I am going to learn so much that my blog will benefit from – I can’t wait for my blog to grow and blossom when I get back from New York.

The other day, I was chillin’ on twitter and saw that Microsoft Windows will be offering 5 lucky bloggers their chance at a head to toe style makeover during the BlogHer conference.  I can’t even imagine what it would be like if I was just minding my own business, strolling through the expo hall and was surprised with a style makeover from Microsoft Windows. If you happen to know me in real life, then you know that I pretty much have the worst luck in the world. Okay, that’s probably an exaggeration…but for real you guys…If I had a dollar for the number of times I’ve gone to order something at a restaurant only to have the waitstaff come back and say that they just ran out. Or, the number of times I’ve waited in line for something only for them to cut the line off RIGHT before me. Or the number of times that I get the seat on the airplane that’s falling apart. You get the picture. I swear I have bad luck. So, really I’m not even getting my hopes up for this because this kind-of thing just doesn’t happen to me. Nevertheless, I had to enter. I mean…I need this. Bad.

I’ve never been one that’s really into fashion. I feel like I have a good eye for fashion when it comes to other people, but when it comes to me – something just doesn’t click. I can never tell what looks good on me or if something fits me correctly. I also lack the confidence to venture out of my comfort zone, so I always wind up settling for basics. Very plain and simple basics. Basics that probably don’t even look good on me.  Right now, my daily attire usually consists of a nursing tank with a tee shirt or tank top thrown over and jeans. Sometimes, I don’t even go as far as putting jeans on and just hang out all day in my sweats. I’ve even been known to go grocery shopping in sweats or yoga pants. I mean, I have Monkey with me 99.99% of the time anyway, and I know everyone’s staring at him (not me)…or so I like to tell myself! Let’s not even get into shoes…I’m pretty sure most of my shoes are at least 5 years old, and I own maybe one pair of heels.

In my mind, I can’t justify spending money on clothes that I know I’ll never wear because I have no idea if they look good on me. I need help. Maybe if I had someone that could show me a few outfits that fit my body well, I’d be able to work on building a better wardrobe? If I am one of the lucky 5 picked for this contest, I’d get a celebrity stylist to give me a $1500 makeover! I’d also receive a new Windows PC.  I didn’t even get into this in the video below, but man do I need that PC. My laptop is so busted that it doesn’t even recognize when I plug my phone in anymore. It sometimes recognizes when I plug my camera in, but sometimes not. I swear it has a mind of it’s own. The husband gets annoyed when he tries to use it because he says it’s so freakin’ slow. Sometimes I give up when I’m trying to work on a blog post, because editing pictures takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R. (Sandlot, anyone?)

So yeah, I need this. And I want it, but really…I need it. Below is a quick video showing my typical wardrobe and why I want need this makeover. Be sure to watch the whole thing, because you’ll get to see the super adorable Monkey near the end.  Since I know looking at me won’t make you smile, keep watching until you see him – then you’ll be guaranteed to smile! (Hey, I’m a proud momma, okay?)

As part of this contest, I’m also supposed to talk about my re-imagined look for the celebrity stylist to keep in mind when giving me the makeover. I like to say that my dream style is a modern day hippie. Yes, I’m pretty much a hippie. There’s no getting around that. I’m eco-friendly, use cloth diapers, wear (almost) no make-up, strive to be a minimalist, and love incense, especially the pachouli scented kind. While I do love me some tie dye, I’m not really wanting to make my entire wardrobe look like I’m from the 70′s.  So, I’m thinking more modern. I do love vintage though, so vintage clothes repurposed into something new would be awesome. I love lace, color, and fun. I’m not a girly girl, though so nothing too sparkly or expensive looking. (Think I’ll get kicked out of Sparklecorn at BlogHer12 if I’m not wearing sparkles?) To get a better vision of what I’m talking about, visit my Pinterest board for my style inspiration.

I love everything made by this little boutique from Portland, Oregon called Camp Hollyhock. They sew all of their clothes from vintage materials like bedsheets and pillowcases. I currently own one dress from their store, but when I wear it I’m not sure if I’m totally pulling it off…so I’ve only worn it once. I need someone to show me how I can dress like this successfully and have the confidence that allows me to not only feel good, but actually look good, too.

So to the judges of the Microsoft #Windowstyle makeover contest for BlogHer12… Please read this post, watch my video, visit my Pinterest board and if you really feel like getting to know me – take a gander through my archives. I really do need this makeover, and if I am chosen as one of the lucky 5, I promise I’ll thank you a million times over. You’ll make this momma one happy momma. I’d love to arrive back in Michigan as the same ol’ me but with some added confidence, a new computer, and a much needed boost to my style!

In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!
